Contracting: HAVE, HAS, & HAD + NOT
Alright, now let’s negate HAVE, HAS, and HAD. So, we’re going to put NOT onto the end of HAVE, HAS, and HAD or we’re going to contract HAVE, HAS, and HAD onto the pronoun and leave NOT uncontracted.
I will add that HAVEN’T, HASN’T and HADN’T actually sound more natural to me. That’s just my opinion.
Let’s go through some examples.
I have not – I’ve not – I haven’t
ɑe hæv nɔ[t] – ɑev nɔ[t] – ɑe hævn[t]
You have not – You’ve not – You haven’t
jʉː hæv nɔ[t] – jʉːv nɔ[t] – jʉː hævn[t]
He has not – He’s not – He hasn’t
hiː hæz nɔ[t] – hiːz nɔ[t] – hiː ˈhæzn[t]
She has not – She’s not – She hasn’t
ʃiː hæz nɔ[t] – ʃiːz nɔ[t] – ʃiː ˈhæzn[t]
We have not – We’ve not – We haven’t
wiː hæv nɔ[t] – wiːv nɔ[t] – wiː hævn[t]
They have not – They’ve not – They haven’t
ðæɪ hæv nɔ[t] – ðæɪv nɔ[t] – ðæɪ hævn[t]
It has not – It’s not – It hasn’t
ɪ[t] hæz nɔ[t] – ɪts nɔ[t] – ɪ[t] ˈhæzn[t]
So, you’ll notice there, I muted the T. Okay? Just be aware of that. I muted the T in that example.
This time, I’m not going to.
