Hooray, it’s Friday!

Welcome to the weekend Goss episode here on the Aussie English podcast.

In today’s episode, we talk about the insanely beautiful phenomenon called the aurora Australis.

It is commonly knows as the southern lights — being that it’s, well, down here south; and it’s the counterpart of the northern lights.

Just like what it’s called, the aurora Australis light up the southern skies with beautiful colors. Auroras are caused by the release of fully charged particles from the sun, known as a solar wind.

In Tasmania, the southern lights come out all year round but there is no specific time to it — only Nature decides when to show them off!

In another story, Dr. Gregory Moore of the University of Melbourne wrote an article about the common brushtail possum and sick-looking gum trees.

You’ll be surprised to know why the possum would love to hang out in dry, sick gum trees.
