Meet Nadac Reales, a biotechnologist from Chile.

This brilliant scientist is currently doing tests with extremophiles – an organism that is able to live in extreme environments.

Chile, being the world’s largest producer of copper, is currently experiencing a lot of problems with mining waste.

Reales was able to ‘harvest’ these iron-oxidizing bacteria called Leptospirillium.

She let these bacteria eat away a nail as a means of feeding themselves!
