Pete,
hi, how is it going?
I have listened to the courses made by you, that is awesome. I have actually been staying in Melbourne since August 2017, I have study English at language school since ever. I studied on Cambridge PET , I am studying on up-intermediate of general english. during training of those courses, i reckon whether I am improving all the time or not? because I couldn’t understand the people what they were talking most time when I was on the street. i am bad at speaking as well. but it could be better at school. sometimes, I wonder whether I studied in the wrong way. I am confused that I am too old to study language .would you mind telling me what should I do?-
Hey Ocean,
You’re never too old to learn a language! Don’t worry!
It’s definitely not easy at first and requires you to work hard each and every day to improve, and I know it’s especially difficult when you’re living IN a foreign country whilst trying to do so.
With my content, I would suggest focusing most of your attention on listening comprehension (in each Expression episode and the Interview In Depth episodes) and on speaking (focus on the pronunciation, listen and repeat exercises, and the connected speech exercises).
Try to do a little bit of this each day and if you can keep it up you’ll definitely improve rapidly.
The last thing is, don’t be afraid of making mistakes and not understanding everything you hear 🙂 This is all part of language learning. Keep speaking and using your English and you’ll rapidly improve!
I hope that helps.

Pete,
How are you? Thank you for your patience and advising me.
you told me that I should focus on the listen and repeat exercises, which means that I should follow you and repeat without transcript while you were reading, is it correct?
Also, I could not find the connected speech exercises you mentioned, could you tell me how it goes?
best wishes,
Lei

Hey Lei,
The most recent course AE 391 doesn’t have a connected speech one, but you will find them in the previous courses. I’ve been changing things a little to make it fresher.
Here’s the one from AE 384 – https://theaussieenglishclassroom.com/lessons/ae-384-connected-speech/
In the listen and read exercises, you listen to the podcast, read the transcript, and then complete the listening comprehension exercise at the end whilst listening to the content again. Try this one – https://theaussieenglishclassroom.com/lessons/ae-384-listen-read/
