In today's episode...
In this episode of Pete’s 2c, I answer some of your most interesting Aussie English questions sent in via Instagram.
First up, I’m sharing my love for the classic miniseries Shogun on Hulu – it’s a beautifully crafted historical drama with a Japanese setting. Next, we tackle the “G’day” question – do Aussies say it constantly? Well, it’s definitely common and friendly, but not every single greeting. I reveal that I’m from the town of Calista in Western Australia and then dive into the mystery of why Australians call napkins “serviettes” – turns out, it’s all about that British influence!
We also touch on the ongoing supermarket debate (Coles, Woollies, or Aldi’s?), with a nod to a recent scandal involving the Woolies CEO.
Finally, I discuss what kind of phrases you should absolutely avoid using here in Australia – anything racist, sexist, or generally derogatory is a big no-no.
