Bio

My name is Ian Carpenter, I’m a huge aficionado of Pete & Raquel’s “Aussie English”

I’m also an Experienced ESL Tutor and Passionate Cultural Ambassador!

…a bit more about me

I’m a Melbourne based  Australian ESL Teacher with a Cambridge Certificate and many years experience.

Having lived on and off in Spain over a six year period, I’m particularly experienced in teaching English to Spanish speakers and I’m proficient enough in Spanish to offer beginner Spanish classes to anyone interested.

My experience with the Spanish language includes a recent two month trip to South America that included a month of voluntary English teaching in a Secondary College in Cusco, Peru and later extended visits to Puerto Rico and Cuba.

If a lack of English is causing you to miss out on opportunities in Education, Culture or Business, there is nothing excites me more than the opportunity to help you realise your potential and to welcome you to the Global English speaking community.

For International visitors to Melbourne who are interested, I focus my classes around aspects of life in Melbourne or more generally on Indigenous, Colonial and Multi-Cultural Australia. Ours is a very unique place in the World!

Furthermore, for anyone with enough time, I am very happy to combine my classes with visits to places of interest in Melbourne such as galleries, museums, gardens, historical landmarks, zoos or my hometown of Williamstown to name a few.

As a Native English speaker with excellent qualifications and many years of experience teaching and tutoring English as a second language I speak slowly, clearly and methodically!

My lessons are structured according to the level and needs of my students, be they business, academic, travel or simply communication. It’s my aim to make your English language learning fun and as interesting as it can possibly be!

I am also very interested in developing online teaching or tutoring opportunities enabling me to reach out to learners anywhere in the World. If this is something that interests you, please feel free to message me!

Experience

ESL Employment to date:

At various times over the past 20 years I have given private one on one lessons to adult migrants from mainly South American and Asian Countries.

Worked as a volunteer Ambassador for the Globall programme for the last 4 years.

While living in Europe from 1972 to 1983 I had many private students and gave classes at the following locations in Spain:

Academia Cots, Soller, Mallorca Spain – I worked as an ESL teacher at this private language school for two academic years. My role involved the teaching of group classes to mainly teenage learners.

Madrid, Spain to Cambridge, UK – Summer School In partnership with an English colleague, I worked as an ESL teacher at a month long summer school we coordinated for 20 of our regular students from Madrid at Saffron Walden near Cambridge. My responsibilities also included the supervision of extra curricular activities and excursions.

Barcelona, Spain – My ESL teaching experience started while living in the Catalan Capital. A friend who worked as an ESL teacher at a private language school mentored me to fill in for him for a summer semester and so began my involvement with ESL teaching. My role involved the teaching of group classes, to mainly teenage learners.
